A.J. and I often head away from Seattle for weekend trips, and Portland, OR is one of our favorite destinations. We have nearly always run into some kind of festival or gathering while here (impromptu bike parades, a gathering of Santas, etc) and we weren’t let down this time. On Saturday evening as we walked back to our hotel, the police were shutting down roads for the “Dyke March” and then today we found ourselves immersed in the Portland Pride Festival. Needless to say, Rainbow Bear had a blast!

Soul Patrol!

We went to see Grease at the 5th Avenue last week, and former  American Idol Taylor Hicks played the part of Teen Angel. It was really fun, and the place was packed with really excited people. :)  After the show, Taylor Hicks performed his new single, and as he left the stage everyone was clapping and I yelled out “Soul Patrol!”  just like he used to do on American Idol. Fun times!

Lake 22
We hiked along the Lake 22 trail in the National Forest up by Granite Falls. This was one of the waterfalls along the trail. It was pretty chilly, and there was still some snow on the ground, but it was a lot of fun! There are many more trails in that area that we’ll explore later this summer… When the roads are open and the snow melts!
Rat City Rollergirls
We went to the rollerderby last night at the Key Arena and it was great! It was my first rollerderby experience, and it lived up to my expectations and then some. There were the die-hard fans, the dressed up “mascots”, the funny names (Ima Handful, Ann R. Kissed, Carmen Getsome), and, of course, the bout itself! I would totally go again sometime… And there’s a part of me that’s interested in joining in one of their “Potential Fresh Meat” sessions sometime!
The photo doesn’t do justice to the bout, but the iPhone isn’t known for it’s action shots, so here’s what I got:
